The tradition of finding me spans four generations. From Radio Agers, Boomers, Gen X’s and Y’s , everyone in our families share in the fun.
It all began when, after an exceptionally trying bedtime, Denise and Andrea found me hiding in the bread drawer one morning shortly after Thanksgiving. I had flown in during the night to give Mary Ann (the mom) some help in settling the girls down. Just days ago I convinced Santa of the need for me to help him get his naughty and nice list ready.
My presence was very helpful and Santa thought it would be a good idea to write a story about me. So Santa asked his really good friend, Mary Ann, to write about me and spread the word…and she did. Roger (the Dad) published my story , “Hooray For Elfie”.
Kids are really smart and wanted to know, “how can Elfie be everywhere”? “He is just one elf.” The answer is easy. With a great big hug, a pat on the head, and plenty of magical moments I was duplicated in Santa’s duplicating machine! So now, I go EVERYWHERE, and Santa never runs out of me.
But, then they asked “how does he come alive and hide around the house?” That’s easy too. I am in a deep sleep when I arrive. As soon as I feel the love and family spirit I wake up. I am really energetic at night when everyone else is sleeping and stay very still during the day as I watch and observe. I love discovering new hiding places and hearing the delight and laughter when I am found.
It is amazing how my presence helps kids remember their manners, how to treat each other respectfully, and to always be truthful. No one wants to end up on the naughty list, but sometimes kids get so excited and anxious they forget. So, that’s where I come in as a gentle reminder.
